Cracking the FAANG Interview: A 6-Month Comprehensive Roadmap
Getting into MAANG (Meta, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Google) requires more than just knowing how to code. It requires a systematic approach to problem-solving, deep architectural knowledge, and strong communication skills.
Month 1-2: Core Data Structures
Focus entirely on mastering basic data structures: Arrays, Strings, Hash Maps, Linked Lists, Stacks, and Queues. Do not rush. Understand the time and space complexity of every operation.
Month 3-4: Advanced Algorithms
Dive into Trees, Graphs, Dynamic Programming, and Backtracking. These are the differentiating topics where many candidates struggle. Practice standard traversal patterns and recognize when to apply DP.
Month 5: System Design & CS Fundamentals
For mid-level or senior roles, System Design is heavily weighted. Study load balancers, caching, sharding, and message queues. Simultaneously, brush up on OS, DBMS, and Computer Networks concepts.
Month 6: Mock Interviews & Behavioral Prep
Do not underestimate the behavioral round (e.g., Amazon's Leadership Principles). Prepare STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) stories. Do mock interviews on Pramp or with peers to simulate the pressure of a real interview.
